Job Description

Full Stack Software Engineer

React | Node.js / Python | AI-Enabled Delivery

Radiant | Near BWI Airport, Maryland | Full-Time | Onsite 4 days/week | DMV candidates preferred or willing to relocate

About Radiant

Most government workflows still run on email chains, spreadsheets, and paper. Radiant exists to change that. We're a small, fast-growing team that builds workflow applications for public sector clients — replacing manual, fragmented processes with secure, modern software that helps government teams work faster, make better decisions, and serve people more effectively.

We are hiring a Full Stack Software Engineer to design, build, and ship these applications end to end. This is a hands-on role with meaningful ownership across front end, back end, APIs, data, integrations, and deployment.

This is also an AI-enabled engineering environment. Our developers use tools like Cursor and Claude Code as part of day-to-day delivery — not as novelties, but as force multipliers. We are looking for someone who uses AI to accelerate development without lowering the bar on architecture, testing, security, maintainability, or production quality.

What You'll Build

You'll own the full stack of workflow applications for public sector clients — from responsive interfaces to the APIs, business logic, and data layers that power them:

  • Build workflow applications including intake, review, approval, routing, case management, and reporting experiences
  • Design and implement responsive front-end interfaces using React, TypeScript/JavaScript, HTML, and CSS
  • Develop back-end services, APIs, business logic, and integrations using Node.js and/or Python
  • Design, model, and optimize data in PostgreSQL and related systems; use MongoDB or document databases where appropriate
  • Use AI-assisted development tools (Cursor, Claude Code) for prototyping, coding, refactoring, testing, and documentation
  • Evaluate and apply agentic AI frameworks and LLM-based patterns where they create real product value — not just because they're trendy
  • Collaborate with product, design, and stakeholders to translate messy real-world business processes into reliable software
  • Own quality through code review, automated testing, debugging, monitoring, and production support
  • Build with security, performance, and maintainability in mind — especially in environments serving public sector users

Required Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science — this is a hard requirement, no exceptions
  • 5+ years of professional software engineering experience in full stack, product, or application development roles

Technical

  • Strong hands-on experience with React and modern JavaScript/TypeScript
  • Strong server-side development experience with Node.js and/or Python
  • Experience designing and building REST APIs; familiarity with GraphQL is a plus
  • Strong experience with relational databases (PostgreSQL or MySQL); familiarity with MongoDB is helpful
  • Experience with Git, CI/CD workflows, Docker, and cloud deployment — preferably AWS
  • Solid understanding of authentication, authorization, and web security fundamentals including OAuth 2.0, JWT, and OWASP top-10 risks (XSS, CSRF, SQL injection)

Working Style

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a small, fast-moving team
  • Ability to work onsite at least 4 days per week at our office near BWI Airport
  • Local to the DMV area or willing to relocate

Strongly Preferred

  • Experience using AI development tools such as Cursor, Claude Code, or GitHub Copilot in day-to-day engineering work
  • Familiarity with agentic AI frameworks or orchestration tools (LangChain, CrewAI, AutoGen, or similar)
  • Experience building workflow, case management, or process automation systems
  • An active GitHub profile, portfolio, or examples of shipped work

A Note on Experience Level

This opening is primarily targeted at an experienced engineer with 5+ years of professional development work. However, we will also consider exceptional recent Computer Science graduates for a level-adjusted role if you can demonstrate unusual depth through internships, research, open-source contributions, or substantial shipped projects. If that's you, include your GitHub profile or portfolio and let the work speak for itself.

What Success Looks Like

In your first several months, you're succeeding if you:

  • Ship meaningful product features to production
  • Improve delivery speed through disciplined use of AI-assisted development workflows
  • Contribute across the stack with strong engineering judgment and reliable execution
  • Raise the bar on code quality, security, and maintainability
  • Earn the trust of your teammates as someone who delivers and communicates clearly

What We Offer

  • Competitive salary commensurate with experience
  • Comprehensive health, dental, and vision insurance
  • 401(k) with employer matching contributions
  • Professional development budget — conferences, courses, certifications
  • A modern, AI-enabled development environment with best-in-class tooling
  • Small team, high ownership — your work directly improves how government serves people

How to Apply

In a brief cover note, tell us:

  1. What you've built that you're most proud of — and why

Include a link to your GitHub profile, portfolio, or code samples.
