Guides in Training (GITs) & Junior Guides in Training (Junior GITs) About Us Lure of the Wild is a fully-outdoor day camp operating in the public and private woodlands of Central Maryland. Our program fosters growth through immersive outdoor play and provides campers with enriching, hands-on experiences. The Guides in Training (GITs) and Junior Guides in Training (Junior GITs) programs are designed for young leaders to gain early professional experience, develop leadership skills, and inspire younger campers in a supportive and educational environment. About the Role Guides in Training (GITs) Ages: 14–15 years old. Earn a weekly stipend. Act as apprentices under the guidance of camp staff. Serve as role models, assisting younger campers and supporting their safety, engagement, and fun. Gain hands-on experience in nature and child development. Get professional training with all staff and certified in First Aid and CPR Must provide a work permit. Must work at least five weeks. Junior Guides in Training (Junior GITs) Ages: 13 years old (younger campers may be considered at the discretion of the Director). Typically returning campers with demonstrated interest and ability in taking a lead role. Participate in interviews to determine eligibility. Eligible for reduced camp fees: $100 off per week. Must sign up for four or more weeks. Key Responsibilities Assist counselors and staff in supervising younger campers. Provide individual attention to campers to enhance their safety and engagement. Learn about outdoor education, child development, and leadership through direct experience. Embody and promote camp values by maintaining a positive and inclusive attitude. Training and Support GITs receive training in CPR and First Aid (provided but not required). Mentorship by camp staff to develop leadership and teamwork skills. Compensation Guides in Training (Ages 14–16): Stipend of $100 per weekly session (minimum commitment of five weeks). Total stipend paid as a lump sum at the end of the summer upon successful completion of the program. Junior GITs (Age 13): Reduced camp fees: $100 off per week for four or more weeks.
