Job Description

Description:

Build a safer workplace. Grow your safety career. Make a real impact.

Safety excellence doesn’t happen by accident—it’s built every day by people who care deeply about protecting others. As a Safety Coordinator , you’ll play a key role in creating a safe, compliant, and engaged work environment while developing the skills and experience needed to grow into future safety leadership roles.

This is a position designed for someone who wants hands-on experience, strong mentorship, and meaningful responsibility in environmental health & safety (EHS). You’ll partner closely with site leadership, front-line associates, and regional safety experts to drive continuous improvement and help everyone go home safe—every day.

Why This Role Is a Great Opportunity

  • High visibility & impact – Your work directly affects employee safety, compliance, and site performance
  • Career growth built in – Structured development plans, exposure to Safety Manager responsibilities, and coaching from experienced safety leaders
  • Hands-on learning – Spend time on the floor, not just behind a desk, learning processes, equipment, and operations
  • Leadership exposure – Work closely with site leaders and serve as a key safety voice at the location
  • Purpose-driven work – Be empowered to stop unsafe work and prevent injuries before they happen

What You’ll Do

Safety Programs & Compliance

  • Partner with the Site Safety Manager to develop, implement, and continuously improve site safety and health programs
  • Ensure compliance with company standards and federal/state/provincial regulations
  • Participate in internal audits, inspections, and safety observations, helping drive corrective actions to completion
  • Own and contribute to sections of the company safety audit process

On-the-Floor Engagement

  • Spend regular time on the floor building relationships, observing work practices, and identifying risks
  • Intervene and stop unsafe behaviors or conditions that could harm people or equipment
  • Collaborate with associates and leaders to reduce injuries, illnesses, and operational risk

Incident Prevention & Investigation

  • Complete qualified incident investigator training
  • Lead or support timely, high-quality incident investigations
  • Identify root causes and help implement corrective actions that prevent recurrence
  • Support serious injury and fatality (SIF) or high-potential incident investigations alongside senior safety leaders

Training & Onboarding

  • Support safety onboarding for new employees, contractors, and visitors
  • Help deliver and maintain safety training programs and site-specific orientations
  • Ensure training materials stay current and compliant with regulatory and company requirements

Safety Leadership & Collaboration

  • Actively participate—and often lead—on the Joint Health & Safety Committee
  • Partner with leadership and employees to respond to safety concerns and ideas, ensuring follow‑through
  • Assist with developing and maintaining written safety procedures (JSAs, SOPs, lockout procedures)

Data, Reporting & Administration

  • Maintain accurate safety records, training documentation, and reporting
  • Support safety metrics, scorecards, and employee involvement tracking
  • Handle confidential health and safety information with discretion and professionalism

Professional Development

  • Create and execute an Individual Development Plan (IDP) with the Site Safety Manager and Safety Liaison
  • Gain exposure to industrial hygiene programs such as air and noise monitoring, chemical management, and hearing conservation
  • Serve as the site safety contact when the Safety Manager is unavailable

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • At least 1 year of safety-related experience
  • Strong communication skills with an approachable, empathetic style
  • Excellent organization, attention to detail, and record‑keeping skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and interpret safety data effectively
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)

Preferred (Not Required)

  • Degree or certificate in safety, health, or a related field
  • CPR and First Aid certification
  • Familiarity with OSHA regulations
  • Safety certifications (e.g., Certified Safety Professional or working toward certification)
