Job Description

Spanish Translator Responsible for translating member materials from English to Spanish, primarily non‑technical health care content, and promoting language access for Limited English Proficient (LEP) members across Oregon. Responsibilities Translate member materials from English to Spanish using computer‑aided translation (CAT) software; materials range from benefit correspondence to educational content. Adjust translation to convey style, tone, and intent, producing culturally and linguistically appropriate materials. Ensure translations meet meaning, reading level, brand, and style guidelines. Provide proofreading and editing for vendor or contractor documents. Collaborate daily with copywriters, graphic designers, project managers, and reviewers to meet quality standards. Request clarification for ambiguous source text to ensure accurate transfer into Spanish. Balance time‑sensitive deadlines with long‑term project schedules. Experience & Education Required Minimum 3 years translating English to Spanish. Pass a translation assessment. Experience with CAT software. Experience proofreading and editing. Preferred Qualifications American Translator Association (ATA) certification or related translation coursework. Postsecondary degree in translation or related field. Advanced professional proficiency (ILR level 4) in reading and writing Spanish. Desktop publishing (DTP) experience. Quality assurance experience. Experience with alternative formats such as large print and audio. Experience translating healthcare and marketing materials. Experience with a corporate or agency creative team. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Advanced literacy in English and Spanish, with proper grammar and syntax. Knowledge of best practices for U.S. Spanish‑speaking audiences. Knowledge of terminology management and term bases. Basic managed care concepts, including Oregon Health Plan (OHP) and Medicare. Understanding of Oregon interpretation certification requirements. Excellent English communication skills. Proficiency with Trados, WordFast, or similar CAT tools. Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines. Strong multitasking, organizational, and judgment skills. Effective collaboration with internal and external stakeholders. Ability to work independently or as part of a team. Active support of CareOregon mission and values. Working Conditions Indoor office environment; occasional travel may be required. Work from home. May involve physical and ergonomic hazards; general office equipment used.
