Job Description

POSITION OVERVIEW:

The Loan Officer is responsible for evaluating, authorizing, or recommending approval of loan applications for members of the credit union. This role involves delivering exceptional member service by guiding applicants through the loan process, recommending financial solutions that align with their needs, and promoting the credit union’s mission. The Loan Officer ensures compliance with all applicable lending policies, procedures, and regulations, while fostering the financial well-being of members.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Interview loan applicants to gather comprehensive financial information and determine eligibility.
• Evaluate creditworthiness by reviewing credit reports, income documentation, and financial statements.
• Recommend and process various types of consumer loans, including auto, personal, home equity, and credit cards.
• Clearly and professionally explain loan terms, repayment plans, and available credit union products to members.
• Ensure all required documentation is complete, accurate, and compliant with internal policies and applicable laws.
• Present loan applications to underwriters or loan committees, when necessary, for approval.
• Maintain up-to-date knowledge of credit union loan programs, interest rates, and internal policies.
• Develop and maintain positive relationships with members, identifying opportunities to cross-sell additional credit union services.
• Follow up on delinquent loans and assist in collections efforts when appropriate.
• Maintain accurate and organized loan records, updating member files in the credit union’s system as needed.
• Actively participate in community involvement activities, networking events, and represent the credit union in a positive and professional manner.
• Perform additional duties as assigned in alignment with the credit union’s service standards.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• High school diploma or equivalent; associate or bachelor’s degree preferred.
• 2+ years of experience in loan operations or financial services.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and loan processing systems.
• Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
• Strong communication and interpersonal abilities.
