Located within the Office of Teaching and Learning, the Department of Student Voice & Engagement (DSVE) leads the district's inclusive and responsive education strategy that aims to ensure all aspects of schooling in CPS are inclusive of and responsive to the lived experiences of students, and includes young people as key stakeholders in making decisions that impact them. The District Student Voice Committee (DSVC) represents a student leadership team dedicated to elevating student voice across Chicago Public Schools through participation in district student voice roundtables and planning and leading student convenings that support and empower students in their school’s Student Voice Committee. The DSVC ultimately works with students, teachers, administrators, and central office staff to help build inclusive partnerships between youth and adults, ensuring that students’ needs and perspectives impact their school and District priorities, decisions, and direction. Job Summary Reporting to the Director, Department of Student Voice & Engagement, the District Student Voice Committee (SVC) representative will support the DSVC in developing and enhancing their student leadership skills, with the goal of advancing and strengthening student voices in their schools and the district. The DSVC will lead by participating in and organizing student voice events throughout the school year, where they will serve as models and guides. The DSVC representative will report to the Student Voice & Leadership Specialist and Student Voice Support Role within the Department of Student Voice & Engagement. The DSVC will meet bi-weekly for after-school programming and participate in additional student voice events throughout the year. This student employee position will be compensated for time worked on an hourly basis. Programming will start in September and end in May annually. Responsibilities Attend after-school bi-weekly DSVC team meetings Develop student leadership through sharpening confidence, communication, and facilitation skills Deepen understanding of community building, student voice, and CPS systems & structures Train in intergenerational practices to build inclusive partnerships between youth-adults Organize, plan, design, and execute 3 Student Voice convenings throughout the school year Partner with CPS leaders and departments to provide student voice and inform decision-making at different CPS Forums & Events, ex. Student Voice Roundtables Remain an active and engaged member of their school’s SVC Participate in Elevating Student Voice & Leadership through SVC's, including A Community of Practice in partnership with their SVC Facilitator Share tools and skills learned through DSVC programming to strengthen their school’s SVCs. Other duties as assigned Qualifications / Preferred The following knowledge, skills, and abilities are preferred: Ability to apply critical thinking skills when faced with challenges to problem solve and arrive at a solution Verbal and written communication skills Ability to collaborate with department and peer students as an active member of a team Proficient in the use of digital technology (ex: basic computers skills) Capable of maintaining professionalism in various situations Strong passion for Student Voice and drive to successfully complete assigned tasks In order to qualify for this student worker position, candidates must be actively enrolled as CPS students attending their freshman, sophomore, junior, or senior high school during the 2025-2026 school year. A valid work permit will be required for students under the age of 16.
