Pratt & Whitney is working to once again transform the future of flight—designing, building and servicing engines unlike any the world has ever seen. And because transformation begins from within, we’re seeking the people to drive it. So, calling all curious.

Channel your drive to make a difference into shaping an organization and an industry that’s evolving fast to the future.

Are you ready to go beyond?

What You Will Do:

Columbus Forge, a recognized leader in producing disks for the aerospace propulsion market, is looking for a Principal Thermal Process Manufacturing Engineer  to support the organization.

  • Evaluate controlled isothermal forging and heat treat process excursions to acceptance criteria (metchems). This role works closely with Engineering Source Approval.

  • Assist in root cause investigations for process excursions, interfacing directly with press operators, heat treat operators, supervisors, manufacturing engineers, maintenance, and operations leadership.

  • Pull and analyze data (time, temperature, strain rate) for isothermal forge processes and heat treat processes.

  • Examine testing results for mechanical properties (creep, tensile, stress rupture) and non-destructive testing (grainsize, etch, fpi, sonic inspection).

  • Develop knowledge of alloy specifications and heat treat specifications. Gain understanding of the role materials and processes play.

  • Execute automated metchem project at forge presses. Responsibilities include defining data to be collected, align press data, standardizing data collection, developing and testing auto metchem algorithm, and HMI development.

  • Work to develop automated paretos of metchem causes to help identify top drivers. Partner with forge and heat treat process manufacturing engineers to work projects to improve process capability and reduce excursions.

  • Attend daily and weekly meetings with materials and operations to ensure prioritization aligns with production schedules and to report status.
